Turns in killer version of "People" and gets ‘em off their asses and onto their feet.

Last night at Denver's Pepsi Center, shortly after a speech by Chicago congressman Rahm Emanuel and not long before Senator Hillary Clinton's rousing appearance at the podium, the mighty Alejandro Escovedo came onstage with his band and ripped through a version of "People (We're Only Gonna Live So Long)," one of the more undeniably upbeat numbers from his Real Animal album.
"I love the people!" Escovedo shouted on the chorus, as a floor full of delegates stood up and clapped along.
"These are unbalanced times, and great change is needed," Escovedo had previously observed, in a statement about his appearance. "To be included in this celebration of the dignity and freedom of women and minorities is an honor."
Boy howdy to that, Al.
