Dandy Warhols
(Beat The World)
Courtney Taylor's band has been so many things: a depressoid Velvets manqué, a rollicking Stones-ish outfit, Duran Duran-y without drum triggers, Love + Rockets without love. That Taylor's crew has done them all well is fantastic. But now that Courtney's growing up and older, it's time he had a signature. So for the debut of his own label, he's picked a mish-mash of all those above noises - often in one song. This Dandy embraces the big bash with the hard hooks ("The World the People Together (Come On)") and car crash psychedelia ("Beast of Saints"). It goes all glossy and camp with a voice as smug as LeBon's on "Mis Amigos." And it finds unlikely and unnecessary pals in Mark Knopfler and Mike Campbell on the rousing but limply melodic "Love Song."
Which is the point: Taylor doesn't need more friends or influences. The ones he's mind for awhile are just fine.
Standout Tracks: "Wasp in the Lotus," "And Then I Dreamt Of Yes" A.D. AMOROSI
