Randall Bramblett
(New West)
Apparently at it for over 35 years and with a mountain of famous friends who love to sing his praises (R.E.M, Widespread Panic, Greg Allman, etc.) , Bramblett returns with his 7th solo records (4th for New West) and it's a mixed bag but there are some highlights. Skip the opener "Sun Runs" and go straight to the gorgeous "Everybody Glows" which feature Bramblett's emotive, raspy vocals over a warm groove of guitar/bass/drums, while the sinister "Blue Road" tosses out some groovy, tasteful organ fills. On "Some Mean God" Bramblett tells the story of losing a close friend and "Used to Rule the World" funks out straight from your CD player to the dance floor to get your keester shakin'.
Not all the songs hit the mark, as "Visions" goes on for too long and "Mess About It" is a bit of a mess. Otherwise, Bramblett has made a record that will please both fans and friends alike.
Standout Tracks: "Everybody Glows", "Some Mean God" TIM HINELY
