Sébastien Tellier
(Record Makers)
Sounds like that for Franco-electro leading light Sébastien Tellier, he's discovered the deep thrust and tug of sex and Serge Gainsbourg. There's even - on the track "Pomme" - a big time reference to Gainsbourg's "Je T'Aime" with the whole moaning orgasm atop a liquid beat.
It's not the first time (obviously) that anyone's aped Serge or mimed fucking on record. But Tellier seemed so tamed previously, having created two albums of sensual yet stately even sentimentally romantic (remember "La Ritournelle") electro-pop. But this fuck-face-first disco that swirls around the room as produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and together they share in the muskiness of the Moog and the Mellotron and other of vintage synths. And Tellier responds to the honk-n-skronking keyboards and lushly washed strings by sighing through the plush discoid sounds of "Roche" and the Moroderesque slink-n-kink of "Sexual Sportwear." Somebody get this guy a moist towelette. Actually, maybe you could get me one too.
Standout Tracks: "Sexual Sportwear," "Divine," Roche" A.D. AMOROSI
