Supersuckers
(Mid-Fi)
Twenty years can seem like an eternity but for some reason it seems like only yesterday Seattle's Supersuckers unleashed their fiery brand of hot rod rawk on unsuspecting indie rock cognoscenti. Led by the inimitable Eddie Spaghetti on vocals and bass, Get it Together -which celebrates the band's 20th anniversary - is vintage ‘Suckers, replete with duel-guitars juttin' and jaggin' the frets, Spaghetti's whiskey-throated vocals, and more questionable characters than a game of Clue.
And while the band is known for its chugging Motorhead-cum-Social Distortion garage rock, it's never been afraid of genre-jumping, either. "When I'm Gone" has got Muscle Shoals-esque, gospel-tinged harmonies (Testify!); "Sunset On A Sunday" is a Byrdsian romp through bouncy, sweet pop that recalls the Fountain Of Wayne hit "Stacey's Mom"; and the countrified, acoustic guitar-soaked "Breaking Honey's Heart" is yet more evidence of the band's musical multitasking.
But don't worry, there's plenty of textbook Supersuckers shining through.
