Palmyra Delran

She Digs the Ride

Despite the fact that guitarist/songwriter Palmyra Delran recently did a spate of dates with her fomer, almost-popular band the Friggs, one would hope that the garage-popstress would be more interested in staking out her future than in revisiting the past. And the release of her debut solo record, She Digs the Ride, would seem to indicate just that.

However, with only six songs and clocking in at just over a quarter-hour, it doesn't appear that Delran is quite ready to commit to this whole "solo artist" thing. The half-dozen cuts on She Digs the Ride find Delran further polishing off the edges of her garage-rock roots, emerging with a clutch of tunes like "Baby Should Have Known Better" and the title track that come off surprisingly flat in the studio. Other cuts - "Love Has Gone Away," in particular - shine more brightly, and crackle with at least a little bit of energy. Live, one could assume, these songs are much more electric, but there's a limpness to this EP that's disappointing.

Standout Tracks: "Love Has Gone Away" "You're Losin' Me" JASON FERGUSON
